Sacramento Woman, Mary May, Struck & Killed on Highway 50 at Howe Avenue
Sacramento, CA (May 31st, 2023) – Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning as a female pedestrian, Mary May, lost her life in a traffic accident on eastbound Highway 50 near Howe Avenue, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just after 4:30 a.m., sending shockwaves through the local community. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the victim was walking in the #1 lane of the highway when she was struck by a car. The driver of the vehicle immediately dialed 911, alerting emergency services about the devastating accident.
Driver Tried To Avoid Mary May, But Was Unable To
Preliminary investigations conducted by CHP indicated that the driver was traveling at a speed of 65 mph when he spotted the pedestrian. Attempting to avoid a collision, the driver made an evasive maneuver, but unfortunately, the front end of the car collided with the victim.
After contacting emergency services, the driver responsibly waited for CHP at Watt Avenue. During the intervening period before CHP arrived, it remains unknown if any other vehicles struck the pedestrian.
Mary May’s death resulted in the closure of Highway 50 for 2 hours.
Authorities have clarified that there are currently no suspicions of drugs or alcohol involvement on the part of the driver at the time of the accident. However, a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.
The collision resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes on Highway 50 for approximately two hours. Law enforcement officials diligently worked to gather evidence and clear the scene, redirecting traffic.
