Roger Carroll was Killed in Hit-and-Run in Sutter County
Sutter County, CA (April 8, 2023) – Tragedy struck on Bear River Drive in Sutter County on the morning of April 8 when a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a bicyclist. The fatal crash occurred at around 7:00 a.m., just west of Swetzer Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim, Roger Carroll was a 59-year-old man from Loomis. Carroll was traveling eastbound on his bicycle when he was hit from behind by a 2007-2014 charcoal gray GMC Sierra or Yukon. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the victim lying in the roadway.
A worker who was nearby found the victim and immediately called 911. Emergency responders arrived quickly and rushed the victim to Adventist Health + Rideout, but unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries. The name of the victim will not be released until the Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner has notified the family.
Harpreet Singh Atwal Was Apprehended by CHP Officers
Harpreet Singh Atwal, a 35-year-old resident of Plumas Lake who was believed to be the driver, has been apprehended by CHP Yuba-Sutter officers and taken into custody at the Sutter County jail. A bail amount of $500,000 has been established.
Atwal’s arrest comes after a 59-year-old Loomis man who while riding his bicycle was allegedly struck by Atwal’s vehicle along Bear River Drive in Sutter County, west of the Placer County community of Sheridan.
