Pedestrian Hit Twice, First A Hit-and-Run in Merced
MERCED, CA (August 26, 2024) — Two vehicles fatally struck a man in a tragic hit-and-run incident on East Yosemite Avenue Monday evening, according to the Merced Police Department.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on August 26, near Cordova Avenue. Authorities report that the pedestrian was attempting to cross East Yosemite Avenue when an eastbound Toyota struck him. The driver of the Toyota fled the scene without providing assistance.
Second Driver That Struck The Pedestrian Stayed At The Scene and Cooperated With Police
As a result, moments later, a Honda Civic also hit the man. The Honda driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene, waiting for police to arrive. Emergency crews attempted to save the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
Investigators believe the Toyota involved in the initial collision sustained significant damage and are actively searching for the vehicle and its driver.
