78-Year-Old Man Dies after Crash with DUI Driver in Redding
Redding, CA (November 28, 2023) – In a devastating incident on Saturday afternoon, 78-year-old Redding resident Jose Zuno lost his life in a DUI-related crash that occurred around 3:15 p.m. The collision unfolded in the 1000 block of Hartnell Avenue near Churn Creek Road.
1 Dead, 1 Arrested in DUI Crash on Hartnell Avenue
According to the Redding Police Department, the fatal crash transpired when 31-year-old Daveiontay Norwood of Redding, driving a pickup truck at a high speed, collided with Zuno’s truck as it was pulling out of a driveway.
Trapped inside his vehicle post-collision, Zuno required extrication by responding paramedics. Authorities took Zuno to Mercy Medical Center. He was, regrettably, DOA from the injuries sustained in the crash.
Coroners Office Identify Jose Zuno As Victim In DUI Crash Death
Daveiontay Norwood, displaying symptoms indicative of being under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. He was placed under arrest by law enforcement, and taken to the Shasta County Jail on multiple charges related to DUI.
Notably, a passenger was present in Norwood’s vehicle at the time of the crash, but they absconded from the scene immediately afterward.
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office confirmed Jose Zuno’s identity and residence. The investigation is currently ongoing by authorities. The Redding Police Department has urged anyone with additional information to come forward and contact them at 530-225-4200.
