Police received a call this morning at about 5:50 a.m. regarding a woman lying in the eastbound lanes on Stanton Avenue north of Beach Boulevard.

The woman, believed to be about 45 to 50 years old, was lying on the road suffering from traumatic head injuries.

The woman was taken to a local medical center and was listed in critical condition. She is expected to survive, as of Monday morning.

Police say that her injuries are consistent with someone who has been struck by a vehicle.

After officers reviewed the surveillance video, they saw several vehicles slowing down at about 5:50 a.m. before speeding up again. They think that the accident must have occurred at about this time.
