Pedestrian Fatally Struck by DUI Driver in Multi-Car Crash on Hwy 101 in Sunnyvale
Sunnyvale, CA (May 5, 2024) – A tragic incident on Highway 101 near Mathilda Avenue has resulted in the death of a woman who was struck by a DUI driver following a multi-car accident. The fatal crash occurred around 1:27 a.m. on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports indicate that the chain of events began when the woman, for reasons yet unknown, was driving at a high rate of speed and rear-ended another vehicle. Subsequently, she pulled over to the shoulder of the highway and began walking on the roadway.

Moments later, tragedy struck as an oncoming vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old suspected DUI driver, collided with the woman on the highway.
The impact proved fatal, and the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. But unfortunately, authorities have not released her identity pending notification of her next of kin. But thankfully, the 23-year-old driver remained at the scene, and police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
