A speeding vehicle crash resulted in the death of its driver early Sunday morning. She died on impact when she lost control of the SUV and it crashed into a parked vehicle. Witnesses tried to help but it was to no success.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. officials received the fatal Los Angeles injury collision report. Witnesses said the accident that happened near Western Avenue and 7th Street may have been racing related. Authorities said the SUV possibly traveled at speeds of up 100 miles per hour before the crash.

The vehicle she hit traveled approximately 100-feet into a light pole at the entrance of a McDonald’s restaurant. In turn, the SUV flipped onto the sidewalk, crashed into a tree and contorted.

An investigation is in progress to determine if racing was a factor. Los Angeles police requested a road closure at Western Avenue on the 10 Freeway during clean up and crash site investigation. So far, alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

There was a hit-and-run near the Western Avenue offramp at the 10 Freeway. Investigators will determine if the two incidents are related.
