Bus Involved in 4-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, CA (September 13, 2024) — A four-vehicle crash Friday morning involving an empty transit bus temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of Highway 101 at College Avenue in Santa Rosa.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the multi-vehicle accident occurred around 7 a.m. The Santa Rosa Fire Department dispatched first responders, as noted in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Upon arrival, they found an overturned bus. Fortunately, all lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m.
Following The Crash, Police Investigated to Identify Clues Leading to the Cause of the Accident
The crash began when the driver of a speeding gray Lexus sedan, traveling in the middle lane of northbound Highway 101, attempted to switch lanes to the right. In an effort to avoid rear-ending a vehicle in the third lane, the driver quickly swerved back to the left, crashing into a Cadillac Escalade. The collision caused the Escalade to hit a white transit bus, which was not carrying any passengers. The impact sent the bus spinning out of control before it struck a guardrail and rolled onto its side.
It Took 3 Fire Engines, A Ladder Truck and a Battalion Chief And More To Work The Accident
A Mazda SUV was also rear-ended during the series of collisions, according to the CHP.
The response involved three fire engines, a ladder truck, a squad, a battalion chief, an EMS supervisor, and an ambulance. Two people were evaluated and treated at the scene, but there were no injuries or hospitalizations, according to a CHP officer at the site.
To prevent multi-vehicle crashes, always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, observe your speed, and adjust to the flow of traffic. Staying alert and observant can help you react swiftly to avoid potential dangers on the road.
