Metro Train Crashes into Car in South LA

Los Angeles, CA – CCTV footage captures the dramatic moments when a vehicle was struck by an oncoming Metro Blue Line train in the Central-Alameda area of South Los Angeles Wednesday morning, March 5th. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred shortly before 11:00 A.M. near the intersection of 55th Street and Long Beach Avenue when the driver of a BMW sedan made a left hand turn in front of an oncoming light-rail train. The video shows the light-rail train plowing into the BMW at the intersection destroying the vehicle. Miraculously the driver survived the crash and only suffered minor injuries. LAPD official, Cmdr. Marc Reina stated, “This driver made it out alive with only scrapes & bruises, we are grateful this was not a fatal collision.” The driver was transported to a nearby hospital and was released a short time later. It appears that only one gate arm was down in the intersection, allowing the driver to proceed through.
