Elderly Driver Strikes Car, Boat, Own Garage in Poway Accident

An elderly driver lost control of his car while trying to park inside his garage Wednesday evening in the city of Poway.

According to police reports, the crash took place at around 7:30 p.m. in the 13000 block of Twin Circle Court, where an elderly man was attempting to park his car. Neighbors then say that he inadvertently reversed suddenly, crashing into another car and a boat parked three houses away. He then reportedly stopped and accelerated forward into his own home, destroying much of his garage in the process.

“He reversed three houses down from his house, spun that car around, hit a boat, then put it in drive, and he was coming in around 50 miles an hour,” says Darius Framorsa, who witnessed the accident. “He walked away without a scratch, but he was shaken up. He won’t talk properly. He had a stroke, his wife said, so maybe he suffered another one?”

After crashing into the garage, part of its roof collapsed onto the man’s car, trapping him inside. Firefighters were able to pull the man out of the car as city workers also repaired the home’s damaged foundation. The elderly man, whose identity has not yet been released, was not immediately transported to the hospital, but family members told local reporters on the scene that they planned to check him in later in the night.

Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in the ordeal. Police are now looking into the accident to determine if any preexisting medical conditions contributed to the gear mix up, as suggested by the man’s neighbor. More information will be released upon the completion of their investigation.
