DUI Driver Kills Pedestrian in Hawthorne

Hawthorne, CA (July 16, 2019) – A suspected DUI driver was arrested after having allegedly struck 2 pedestrians and left them for dead early Sunday morning, July 14. Hawthorne Police dispatchers received calls around 11:40 P.M. about a vehicle vs pedestrian collision in the 12000 block of Prairie Avenue. First responders arrived to find 2 pedestrians, 1 male and 1 female, lying in the road. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the male victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and listed in stable condition. The driver allegedly fled the scene and failed to render aid to the pedestrians. Investigators said that evidence at the location led Hawthorne Police to the driver’s address nearby. The suspect was apprehended by authorities as he tried to enter his apartment. The driver was charged with suspicion of DUI, Felony hit-and-run and felony manslaughter.
