Bakersfield, CA (June 29, 2018) – According to local police officers a grandmother and her 2 grandchildren were hit by a vehicle at the corner of Brown Street and Monterey Street. The accident happened Friday afternoon, June 29th, around 3:40 a.m. The driver was identified as 21-year old Francisco Padilla who was driving southbound on Brown Street where he swerved off the roadway into a fence and struck the 3 victims. Police say that the children were playing out by their front porch when the car had struck them. Of the two children the 6-year old was trapped underneath the vehicle. Bystanders in the area helped to get her out and had to use a jack to lift the car. The -6 year-old was seriously injured and the 2-year old sustained minor injuries. All 3 victims were transported to the hospital to tend to their injuries. Police say that Francisco Padilla tried to flee the scene but was then caught by a bystander in the area. Later authorities discovered that he was under the influence and was driving a stolen car earlier that day.
