8-Year-Old Killed, 9-Year-Old Injured in Hwy 50 Accident in Sacramento
Sacramento, CA (February 11, 2024) – The community grieves the tragic loss of Alexander Cooper, who died after a vehicle struck him on Highway 50 near 65th Street. The incident, which also left his sister Jasmine Cooper with major injuries, occurred around 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The heartbreaking accident unfolded as Yari Quirarte, the children’s mother, attempted to safely move her family to the side of the freeway after experiencing a flat tire. Concerned for the safety of her 9-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, Yari made the decision to get the vehicle off the road, away from fast-moving traffic. However, in a tragic turn of events, the siblings were hit. Regrettably, Alexander Cooper was died instantly.
Man Driving Ford Was Unable To Stop When Family Was Trying To Get Off The Road
Reports indicate that a 30-year-old man driving a westbound Ford in the fast lane attempted to avoid the disabled black Toyota but ended up colliding with Alexander and Jasmine in the center median. The impact was devastating, leading to Alexander’s immediate passing. They rushed Jasmine to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
