Suspect Fled Scene When Stolen BMW Crashed Into Front Yard
Anaheim, CA (April 24, 2023) – A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen SUV. According to the Anaheim Police Department, the Placentia Police Department notified them of a traffic collision involving a stolen vehicle that occurred in the 700 block of North East Street around 1:20 a.m on April 18th. The driver of the stolen SUV reportedly fled the scene on foot after the accident. Officers arriving at the location found the SUV crashed into multiple residential fences. The driver struck a woman in her 40’s. She died at the hospital.
Police Put The Driver Under Arrest Hours Later
After conducting a perimeter search, officers from Anaheim, Placentia, and Fullerton police departments were unable to locate the suspect. However, at around 9:10 a.m. the same day, Anaheim police received a tip about a suspicious man at a church in the 1400 block of East La Palma Avenue. Upon arrival, officers determined that the man was driving the stolen vehicle during the fatal collision. The police booked the man into the Anaheim jail for various offenses. The charges included hit-and-run resulting in injury or death, DUI causing great bodily injury, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and possession of a stolen vehicle. His identity is unknown at this time.
The Placentia Police Department clarified that their officers were not pursuing the stolen vehicle before the crash occurred. The Anaheim Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
