1 Woman Killed, 4 Children among Injured in Multi-Car Pileup on 5 Freeway near Encinitas, CA
Encinitas, CA (April 10, 2023) – A woman has tragically died and several others have been injured in a multi-car crash on the 5 Freeway near Encinitas Boulevard. The incident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 10:45 a.m., according to reports from the California Highway Patrol.
The crash involved several vehicles, including a white Chrysler Pacifica, a gray Honda Civic, a semi-truck, and a Ford Explorer. It is believed that the Chrysler Pacifica, driven by a 40-year-old woman, veered to the right shoulder of the No. 1 southbound lane for unknown reasons. The minivan then collided with the Honda Civic, causing both vehicles to strike the right shoulder guardrail. The semi-truck then collided with the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Civic, causing the minivan to overturn and come into the path of the Ford Explorer.
Three Children Were Taken To A Local Hospital
Tragically, a 33-year-old passenger in the Chrysler Pacifica died from her injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica, another passenger, and an infant were taken to a local hospital with moderate to major non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, three children who were in the Honda Civic at the time of the crash were also taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
At present, authorities do not know what caused the accident or any factors that may have contributed to it. An investigation into the crash will be launched to establish further details surrounding the incident.
The crash caused significant delays on the 5 Freeway, with the road being closed for several hours as emergency services worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene. Traffic was diverted onto nearby roads, causing chaos for commuters and local residents.
