Overturned Vehicle Shuts Down 152 Freeway For Hours

LOS BANOS, CA  (May 22, 2025) — A fatal crash early Thursday morning prompted the closure of a section of eastbound State Route 152, just east of the Interstate 5 interchange, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed.

The collision occurred around 4:49 a.m., with initial reports indicating that a vehicle had overturned onto its side near the northbound I-5 on-ramp. Emergency crews arrived at the scene at approximately 5:32 a.m., and CHP officials later confirmed the crash had resulted in a fatality. The county coroner was called to the scene shortly afterward.

Multiple Lanes Were Shutdown and A Guardrail Sustained Significant Damage

CHP officers and Caltrans personnel shut down multiple lanes to facilitate the investigation and repair damage caused by the crash. A collision heavily damaged the guardrail along northbound I-5 and knocked out a light pole, leaving the area without illumination. Additionally, the incident broke five wooden posts.

Authorities called in tow trucks to remove the wreckage, and investigators gathered evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased, as they are notifying the next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and expect traffic delays as cleanup and infrastructure repairs continue.
