Tragic 2-Car Collision on Hwy 165 Claims 3 Family Members
TURLOCK, CA (December 16, 2024) — A devastating two-car accident on Sunday morning claimed the lives of three members of the Lourenco family, leaving two others critically injured. The crash occurred at the intersection of Greenway Avenue and Highway 165, prompting a swift response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at approximately 9:25 a.m.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely damaged 2023 Jeep SUV and a 2008 Infiniti sedan. According to preliminary reports, a 22-year-old Modesto man was traveling northbound on Highway 165 at high speed when his Infiniti collided with the Lourenco family’s Jeep SUV. The Jeep had entered the intersection after stopping at a stop sign.
Daniel Lourenco, 44, Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene
The impact of the collision was catastrophic. Unfortunately, Daniel Lourenco, 44, who was driving the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 45-year-old Jennifer Lourenco, also died in the crash. Their 16-year-old daughter, Maddie Lourenco, was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Also, the Lourencos’ two other children, a 19-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son, sustained major injuries and were rushed to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
A Fourth Person Died Who Was Driving The 2008 Infiniti Sedan
The driver of the Infiniti, who was not wearing a seatbelt, also died at the scene. Authorities believe excessive speed played a significant role in the accident but have not yet determined whether impairment was a contributing factor.
The CHP is urging anyone with information about the crash to contact their office to assist in the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance on highways.
