Yuba County Woman Killed in DUI Accident On Hwy 70
YUBA COUNTY, CA (September 2, 2024) – Francisca Monzono, a resident of Elverta, died in a tragic wrong-way crash on Highway 70 near McGowan Parkway early Monday morning. The fatal accident occurred around 5:29 a.m. in the Olivehurst area, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident began when 19-year-old Alannah Eastern, driving under the influence, entered the highway in the wrong direction. Her Buick collided head-on with a Toyota SUV driven by Francisca Monzono, 47. The impact caused one of the vehicles to spin out, trapping at least one person inside.
Francisca Monzono Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene to extricate the trapped occupants, but Monzono succumbed to her injuries. The crash injured two other individuals.
Police arrested Eastern on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury. She also received treatment for her injuries at a local hospital.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the crash to contact the CHP.
