According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim was operating a 2021 Toyota RAV4. He was traveling eastbound on the highway when the fateful accident transpired. The Toyota collided with a 2023 tomato harvester tractor, which was crossing from the south to the north shoulder of the roadway.
In a heartwarming display of humanity, a Good Samaritan swiftly pulled over to provide aid and dialed 911 to summon assistance from emergency services. Paramedics arrived on the scene promptly, but tragically, they pronounced the 78-year-old man deceased at the accident site.
76 Year Old Woman Passenger Sustained Major Injuries
A passenger in the Toyota, a 76-year-old woman from Santa Clara, sustained major injuries and was subsequently transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for medical care.
The driver of the tomato harvester tractor, a 22-year-old man from Coalinga, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officers throughout the investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision, which remains under the careful scrutiny of authorities as they work to uncover the details of the tragic incident.
