Suspected DUI Driver Hits Cars, Electrical Box

A driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested early Tuesday morning after crashing into three parked cars and an electrical box in San Diego.

According to local accident reports, the incident took place at around 12:20 a.m. in the 10200 block of Camino Ruiz, where the intoxicated man piloted his Chrysler vehicle into the back of two parked cars, causing the vehicle to spin out of control, strike a third parked car, crash into an electrical box, and catch fire.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene to pull the driver out of his vehicle and put out the flames before they could spread. A portion of the road was closed down for multiple hours to allow for cleanup of the accident, as the man’s car and the two initially hit were all but destroyed in the their crash.

Crews from the San Diego Gas and Electric Company were also brought out to the scene, as the accident had knocked out power for more than 500 customers in the area. By 4:30 a.m., service was restored to most who were reduced to candle power, though three customers remained in the dark.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was sent to the hospital with unknown injuries, and was later arrested by San Diego Police officers under suspicion of driving under the influence. He was booked into a local jail where he awaits his impending charges.
