Male Pedestrian Killed Jaywalking on Berryessa Road in San Jose
San Jose, CA (January 6, 2024) – A pedestrian lost his life Monday evening, January 6, after being struck by a vehicle on Berryessa Road near Sierra Road.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:33 p.m., according to the San Jose Police Department. A man driving a silver 2001 Toyota SUV was traveling eastbound on Berryessa Road and entered the Sierra Road intersection on a green light.
Authorities Arrived And Transported The Man To A Nearby Hospital Where He Later Died
Police say the SUV struck a male pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk. The impact left the pedestrian with severe injuries.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s identity.
Driver of SUV Stayed At The Scene and Cooperated With Police
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police have not indicated any arrests or citations in connection with the incident.
The San Jose Police Department continues to investigate the crash. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Mike O’Brien of the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit at 3527@sanjoseca.gov.
