1 Killed in Rollover Accident on 5 Fwy in Sacramento
Sacramento, CA (March 31, 2024) – Tragedy struck on Sunday morning when a rollover accident on the 5 Freeway near Laguna Boulevard resulted in the death of one person. The California Highway Patrol South Sacramento Division reported that the multi-car crash occurred around 4:00 a.m.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident may have been caused by speed-related factors. A driver reportedly lost control of their vehicle, colliding with two other cars. The impact caused one of the vehicles to overturn multiple times, scattering debris across the southbound lanes of the highway.
Authorities Arrived At The Scene To Find A Woman Already Killed
Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and discovered a female driver deceased. They rushed her male passenger, who sustained major injuries, to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased driver pending notification of next of kin.
Emergency crews worked diligently to clear the overturned vehicle and debris from the roadway, leading to the closure of the southbound lanes until 8:00 a.m.
While authorities suspect that high speed played a significant role in the crash, they have not yet confirmed if driving under the influence was a contributing factor. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
