Passenger Dies after Hit-and-Run Crash in San Jose
San Jose, CA (February 7, 2024) – Tragedy struck in North San Jose late Saturday afternoon, February 3rd, as Rosa Zapata lost her life in a hit-and-run crash. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Piedmont Road and Sierra Road around 5:41 p.m.

Details provided by the San Jose Police Department reveal that a white 2006 BMW sedan was traveling northbound on Piedmont when it suddenly veered off the roadway, colliding with a light pole and a tree.
The impact of the crash resulted in serious injuries to a female passenger within the vehicle. Paramedics swiftly transported her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Rosa Magaly Zapata, a 30-year-old resident of Turlock.
Driver Fled Scene Leaving Paramedics To Unsuccessfully Revive Rose Zapata
Following the collision, the male driver of the BMW fled the scene on foot, leaving authorities to conduct a search for his whereabouts.
Preliminary investigations by law enforcement suggest that weather conditions did not contribute to the crash. However, an in-depth investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
