ESCONDIDO, CA (April 22, 2022) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Rene Jaime as the man who was killed when he exited his vehicle in an Escondido car wash and was pinned by machinery. The April 15 accident occurred on East Valley Parkway in the 2100 block.

The time was roughly 11:45 p.m., Escondido Police said.

Jaime, who was a resident of Las Vegas, had been visiting family, reports say. On Friday night, he made a trip to the store and to the car wash.

Jaime was in a Scion xB hatchback while in the car wash. For reasons that are not known, he exited the vehicle while the mechanized system was cleaning the car.

The mechanism dragged him, and he was pinned between his car and the cleaning mechanism.

A malfunction alarm sounded, and a person looked into the car wash and found that a man was trapped, according to Chris Leso. Leso is a sergeant with Escondido Police.

Officers lifted and moved the car to free Jaime. Paramedic responders transported Jaime to Palomar Medical Center.

He was pronounced deceased in the hospital. Jaime was 56 years old.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
