RIALTO, CA (October 7, 2022) – Early in the morning on Thursday in Rialto, a head-on crash killed two people, who were later identified as Melissa Jacqueline Castillo and Crystaline Joy Barile Bendo. The October 6 crash occurred on North Riverside Avenue in the 3500 block.

The time was roughly a little before 3:00 a.m., Rialto Police said.

Authorities allege Castillo had been traveling on Riverside Avenue and going south at a fast speed.

In an area close to Ashford Avenue, authorities allege she went over the double yellow lines and into the lane of opposing traffic to pass a tractor-trailer.

The vehicle Castillo was driving collided head on with another vehicle, which was traveling on Riverside Avenue and heading north.

The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Bendo.

Responders pronounced Castillo deceased at the crash site. She was a resident of San Bernardino, 22 years old.

Responders transported Bendo to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. She died in the hospital.

Bendo was a resident of Palmdale, 31 years old.
