ENCINITAS, CA (April 5, 2022) – Late at night on Sunday in Encinitas, a man who was walking on I-5 in Encinitas was struck and killed. The April 3 crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, near Santa Fe Drive and to the south of it.

The time was roughly 11:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, a man was walking in a traffic lane on the northbound side of the freeway. A vehicle–described as a Jeep Grand Cherokee–struck him in the number 2 lane.

Responders pronounced the man deceased at the crash site. He was identified only as a resident of Solana Beach, 46 years old. His name has not been reported.

The driver stayed at the crash site and cooperated with investigators. The driver was identified only as 50 years old. The person’s name, gender, and city of residence are not known from reports.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call the Oceanside Area office of the California Highway Patrol.
