Lompoc Crash on Highway 1 Kills 10-year-old Girl

LOMPOC, CA (September 29, 2022) – Early in the morning on Wednesday in Lompoc, a vehicle crashed, killing a 10-year-old girl. The September 28 crash occurred on Highway 1, near Santa Lucia Canyon Road and to the north of it.

The time was roughly 7:57 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, the driver was heading south on Highway 1 when the vehicle traveled off the roadway, went onto the shoulder, and rolled over a number of times.

Two passengers who had been traveling in the vehicle were thrown from it, according to Santa Barbara County Fire.

Responders pronounced a girl deceased at the crash site. She was identified only as 10 years old.

Reports say she was a student in the fifth grade at Buena Vista Elementary School in Vandenberg Village.

Responders transported the other girl who was a passenger by airlift to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.

She was identified only as 8 years old. Reports say she was a sibling of the girl who died, and a student in second grade at Buena Vista Elementary.

Responders took the driver to Marian Regional Medical center. The patient suffered head injuries, reports say.

The driver was identified as 18 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.

Investigators are working on the crash details.
