Elderly Man Killed, Driver Arrested on Hwy 101 in San Jose
San Jose, CA (March 19, 2024) – Tragedy struck on Tuesday evening, March 19, when Justine Rivas ran into a pedestrian who was then killed in a DUI-related crash on Highway 101 in San Jose.
The fatal incident occurred around 9:15 p.m., just north of McKee Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 25-year-old Justine Rivas, a resident of San Jose, was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry north on Highway 101 when the vehicle collided with the pedestrian.
The Elderly Gentleman’s Identification Is Unknown
Unfortunately, authorities pronounced the victim, described as an elderly man, dead at the scene. They have not yet released his identity pending notification of next of kin.
CHP officers stated that Rivas was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. Subsequently, authorities arrested her and booked her into the Santa Clara County jail on $175,000 bail.
At the time of the crash, Rivas was accompanied by a 3-year-old boy in the car, as reported by CHP.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
