FALLBROOK, CA (July 27, 2022) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the passenger who was killed on Saturday in a small plane crash in Fallbrook. He was Howard Henry Rose, a resident of Chino, 77 years old.

The July 23 crash occurred after the single-engine, vintage plane took off from the airport in Fallbrook.

According to authorities, the plane climbed to roughly 50 feet in elevation, and then the engine stalled. Reports say the plane began to descend adjacent to the airport.

The plane hopped over the ground a number of times, and then went over a berm and came to a stop by a greenhouse at the Altman Plant Nursery, located on Olive Hill Road in the 2500 block.

The pilot was helped from the plane by a person who witnessed the crash. The Good Samaritan called for help from responders.

Responders from the Fire Department took Rose–who was the passenger–from the plane’s cockpit. They pronounced him deceased at the crash site.

The identity of the pilot has not been reported, and the types of injuries the person suffered are also not known.

Investigators are in the process of gathering information about the crash to determine why it happened.
