Four people were killed in a head on collision on New Year’s Eve on Highway 12 on Brannan Island just east of the Sacramento County Line.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place just after 9 p.m. “out in the middle of nowhere”, where a white 2012 Toyota Camry piloted by 42 year old Razek Azizi of Tracy plowed directly into the front of a silver 2002 Hyundai Elantra with three passengers on board.

When responding officers arrived on the scene, the Hyundai was found resting on its roof in a ditch off the side of the road, and the Camry had come to rest between the east and westbound lanes. Azizi and the occupants of the Elantra, 23 year old Siara Biddle, 28 year old Tierra Anderson, and 31 year old Raphael Hill, all residents of Fairfield, were pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP Sergeant Kyle Plant reported that all four were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, and that no one was ejected in the collision, which inflicted major damage to the front ends of both vehicles. Officers closed down both directions of Highway 12 for almost 4 hours to clean up the debris from the accident and uncover its cause.

At this time, investigators have little information about what may have happened. “There were no witnesses so we’re still piecing things together,” said Plant. It is unclear whether or not alcohol was involved. Anyone with information that can help with the investigation is being encouraged to contact the CHP as soon as possible.
