Drunk Driver Crashes into House of 80-Year-Old Man

An 80-year-old man was shaken up after a possible drunk driver crashed through his home in Anaheim, according to police reports from the Anaheim Police Department.

The collision occurred at about 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of South Magnolia Avenue on Friday.

The alleged drunk driver had already destroyed several other objects on the street. He plowed into a few cars and drove onto the sidewalk multiple times before he drove into the front of the man’s house.

The elderly resident was at home and sitting in his living room on the couch with his cat when he was startled by a loud noise outside. He barely had time to move out of the way before the car plowed through the front of house.

The man had recently moved into the house after living in a mobile home for several years.

“The investigation showed that the driver was southbound on Magnolia, crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic where he struck the curb and then hit two fences, a house and another block wall,” John Roman, of the Anaheim Police Department, said.

The motorist was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after he failed multiple roadside sobriety tests.

“The driver had been drinking,” Roman said. “He was arrested for driving while under the influence and was booked at the Anaheim police department.”

The man’s black Toyota pickup truck was completely destroyed in the crash.

In California, there were 920 fatal car accidents where at least one of the drivers involved had a blood-alcohol content level higher than the legal limit of 0.08% or above in 2008.

Of the 920 car accidents, more than 1,000 people died in the collision. California is one of the states that has the most deaths from drunk driving crashes in the United States.

It is impossible to determine exactly how much alcohol played a role in these fatalities, but authorities suspect that it was a contributing factor.
