Driver, Passenger Critical After Collision with Wall

An older man and his female passenger were critically injured when their truck smashed into a wall early Friday morning in Crown Point.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash took place along the 3200 block of Ingraham Street shortly before 5 a.m. when a 63 year old man lost control of his Ford F150 pickup truck, which jumped up onto the curb and smashed into a wall near a home.

The impact was enough to virtually destroy the front end of the truck, which trapped the driver and a 41 year old female passenger. The cab of the vehicle was smashed into an abbreviated mess of plastic and metal, and bits of debris from the wall were thrown all across the road.

Firefighters were called to the scene and had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the occupants from the truck. Paramedics then transported the two to a nearby hospital, where they are currently listed in critical condition. The particulars of their injuries are unknown at this time.

Police closed down Ingraham Street from Buena Vista Drive to West Mission Bay for several hours as crews continued to clean up the mess and investigators looked for more clues about the particulars of the accident.

An initial investigation into the crash has shown that alcohol was factor in the crash. It is still being determined if speed or any other reckless maneuvers were also behind the truck’s loss of control.

The driver of the truck was fortunate that he and his passenger escaped with their lives, and that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a dangerous and often fatal decision, unfairly taking the lives of others.
