Police have arrested a man suspected of causing a head on collision and running from the scene late Tuesday night in La Mesa.

28 year old El Cajon resident Parolee Benjamin Nicholas Davidson was taken into custody by San Diego police after colliding head on with another vehicle at the intersection of Fuerte Drive and Grossmont Boulevard just before 10 p.m. and fleeing from the scene, even attempting to break into a nearby home to avoid pursuing officers.

According to reports from the La Mesa PD, a patrolman was attempting to pull Davidson over for speeding in his Saab sedan in the 9400 block of Fuerte Drive when he made a quick turn onto Grossmont to dodge the officer, colliding directly into a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The Saab suffered the worst damage in the crash, with much of its front end collapsed and twisted. The truck escaped largely unscathed, having only suffered dents to its front bumper.

After the collision, Davidson ran from the scene on foot and tried to break into a home in the 9300 block of Wister Driver, though the owners were able to push him out their front door, where police were finally able to bring him down after a short chase on foot.

Upon being arrested, he was taken to a nearby hospital for cuts on his hands and legs suffered while trying to break into the home on Wister Drive. Once treated, he was booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of hit and run, residential burglary, possession of heroin, resisting a police officer, and parole violation.

The 49 year old driver of the Ford pickup truck meanwhile complained of pain to his head at the accident sight, and was taken to the hospital by paramedics. Additional information about the driver’s condition has not been released, though his or her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
