Crash Claims Life Of 5-Year-Old

A tragic car crash took the life of a 5-year-old girl Thursday morning. The crash involved a tanker, two big rigs and eight other vehicles. The crash happened on the Pomona Freeway, according to the California HIghway Patrol.

The chain-reaction crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. when a tanker, carrying milk, failed to slow for stopped traffic. The tanker jackknifed, careening over the center divide near Santa Anita Boulevard and South El Monte.

Two cars and the milk tanker caught fire and debris from the crash spanned the length of two football fields. Four people were critically injured and 10 others suffered minor to moderate injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Ten people were transported to area hospitals, according to officials.

Maydeline Salas was identified as the 5-year-old girl who was killed, the L.A. Coroner said. She was declared dead at Beverly Hospital.

The semi truck that crashed was reported to be owned by Orozco Trucking, according to CBS2’S Amy Johnson. This is the company’s third crash in the last two years. More than 100 gallons of diesel fuel and 6500 gallons of of milk were spilled.
