Driver Struck and Killed in DUI Accident on 680 Fwy near Concord
Concord, CA (July 14, 2024) – A tragic DUI accident on the 680 Freeway near Concord Avenue late Sunday night resulted in the death of a driver and injuries to another.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Contra Costa office, the fatal crash occurred around 10:55 p.m. when a man driving a black Honda Civic, believed to be under the influence, collided with the right concrete barrier of the southbound freeway. The crash left the vehicle blocking the No. 3 and 4 lanes.
DUI Driver Exited His Honda Civic After The Crash and Was Then Struck Twice Before Dying
Shortly after the collision, the driver exited the Honda. A black Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a woman with a male passenger, struck the man, propelling him further south. He was then hit by an oncoming silver Toyota Corolla, driven by a man. The impact caused the Corolla to crash into the concrete center divider and overturn.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the Corolla to a hospital with major injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the Honda, whose identity has not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities suspect that impairment was a contributing factor in the initial crash.
The incident is currently under investigation as authorities seek to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collisions.
