BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (October 27, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Saturday in Borrego Springs, a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck killed the rider. The San Diego Medical Examiner’s office identified the motorcyclist who died as Ruben Gutierrez, a resident of Mexico.
The October 22 crash occurred at roughly 3:31 p.m., reports say.
According to authorities, the motorcycle was traveling on Shell Reef Expressway–described as an off-road area.
A vehicle–described as a pickup truck–was heading west on Shell Reef Expressway. The pickup truck and the motorcycle collided, according to authorities with California State Parks.
Responders arrived to help, but Gutierrez died at the crash site. He was 18 years old.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash, according to reports.
The driver’s identity has not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened.
