Police responded to a check cashing business just before 11 a.m. to investigate a possible forgery in progress. The store is located at the 100 block of South Brookhurst Street near Lincoln Avenue, according to police Sgt. Bob Dunn.

“A woman was trying to cash a forged check,” Dunn said.

Officers attempted to stop the woman in the parking lot, but she eluded them and drove away in her vehicle. A police helicopter followed her Honda SUV all the way onto the southbound I-5.

The woman exited the freeway at Harbor Boulevard and headed west on Ball Road and north on Manchester Avenue where she crashed into two cars at the corner of Broadway.

A woman driving a late-model Ford sedan suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. A man in a Chevy Blazer was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was later released.

The suspect was treated for injuries and then also at the hospital. She was detained on suspicion of forgery, burglary and felony evasion.

The intersection was closed for investigation for several hours after the crash.
