Multiple Crashes after Police Break up Street “Takeover” in Riverside

Riverside, CA – (September 30, 2018) Multiple crashes in Riverside occurred this Sunday, September 30th, following a police break up of a “street takeover,” Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said. A street takeover is described as a blocking of a street for car enthusiasts and rogue motorists to race and perform stunts, a traffic violation endangering other motorists and pedestrians.

When police arrived to bust the group assuming control over the intersection, many vehicles sped away, fleeing the scene. Three crashes followed the takeover, with one vehicle from the scene slamming into a utility pole near Agua Mansa Road and Brown Avenue. The driver was taken to a hospital and held in custody. A second person believed to be involved with the street takeover crashed into a truck and a vehicle carrying a cow, and was promptly arrested.

Another crash, as of yet unclear if related to the takeover, occurred not far away, when a vehicle was speeding through a parking lot into a Jurupa Valley store, Chuy’s Market, located in the 9700 block of Mission Boulevard. Surveillance footage captured the crash and wrecked aftermath. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and other officials are continuing the investigation.
