Fire Captain Sentenced in DUI Hit-and-Run Case

A Long Beach Fire Captain was sentenced in a DUI hit-and-run case after he hit cyclist while driving with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.

The captain was accused of drinking heavily at a Seal Beach bar before getting behind the wheel of his Chevrolet pick-up and driving down Westminster Avenue. The Seal Beach police received several reports of a pick-up driving erratically before getting a 9-1-1 call stating that a cyclist had been hit. The captain then continued to drive away.

The cyclist suffered severe head trauma, broken bones and internal bleeding according to reports.

The fire captain was sentenced to five years of probation and one year in jail as well as a $102,000 restitution fee.
