LONG BEACH, CA (October 22, 2021) – On Thursday morning, Fikre Workneh was struck and killed as he walked across a street in Long Beach. The October 21 crash occurred where Lindero Avenue and East Ocean Boulevard intersect.

According to Long Beach Police, an officer saw the incident happen. Investigators say Workneh was walking across the street, not within a crosswalk. A vehicle–described as an Acura ILX–which was traveling on a green light, struck Workneh.

The officer who saw the incident happen gave medical attention to Workneh until responders from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene.

Responders pronounced Workneh deceased at the crash site. He was 84 years old.

The person who had been driving the Acura stayed and the crash site and cooperated with investigators. The driver was identified only as a resident of Long Beach. The person’s name, age, and gender have not been reported.
