May 19th─ Family members are mourning the loss of their 15-year old son who was struck by a car that swerved to avoid two vehicles that were stopped at an intersection in Lancaster late Thursday evening. The two vehicles had stopped at the intersection, apparently to let the pedestrians cross the street, as the third vehicle approaching from behind at a high speed. The approaching vehicle swerved at the last minute, struck the 15-year old pedestrians and drove onto a nearby embankment, where it rolled several times.

“It flipped, it flipped and flipped and flipped on my baby,” Terri Smith, the victim’s mother, said during an interview at the crash site. “Look at this. That tells you right there — he was out of control. I don’t know if he was drunk, or what the case may be. And he hit the other car hard. … My son is deceased now. He’s no longer here.”

The victim, whose mother witnessed the incident, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The unidentified driver of the vehicle, who authorities said was in his 30s, was also injured in the crash, the extent of the driver’s injuries were unknown.

An investigation was ongoing to determine which possible charges may be filed in the incident adding that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
