COVINA, CA (February 2, 2022) – On Monday night in Covina, an Azusa police officer on a motorcycle struck and killed a bicyclist. The January 31 crash occurred near the border with the area of Charter Oak, at Sunflower Avenue and Cienega Avenue.

The time was roughly 9:10 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

No details have been reported on how the crash happened. The line of travel of the motorcycle and the bicycle is not known.

Responders transported the person who was riding the bicycle, and the police officer, to the hospital.

The cyclist was pronounced deceased in the hospital, according to Elizabeth Kravig. Kravig is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

The police officer’s condition was reported as stable. Reports do not say what types of injuries the officer suffered. The identity of the officer is not known.

Investigators are working to understand the crash, and its causes.
