What is the best safety inspection for a Big Rig truck?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires that all commercial vehicles, including big rigs, must undergo regular safety inspections to ensure that they are safe to operate on the road. These inspections are usually done by a certified mechanic and may include a visual inspection of the vehicle’s brakes, tires, lights, and other mechanical components, as well as a check of the vehicle’s fluid levels and overall condition.

In addition to these regular inspections, it is also a good idea for trucking companies to have a thorough pre-trip inspection checklist that drivers can use to check their vehicles before each trip. This can help to identify any potential issues and ensure that the vehicle is in good working order before it hits the road.

Some of the items that might be included on a pre-trip inspection checklist for a big rig include:

  • Brake system
  • Lights and reflectors
  • Steering and suspension
  • Tires and wheels
  • Fuel and oil levels
  • Windshield wipers and washer fluid
  • Mirrors
  • Exhaust system
  • Coupling devices
  • Emergency equipment (e.g. fire extinguisher, reflective triangles)
