BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 24, 2022) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed on Saturday in Bakersfield was identified by the Kern County coroner’s office as Vivian Lajoy Pope.

The August 20 crash occurred on Union Avenue in the 500 block.

The time was roughly 9:47 p.m., Bakersfield Police said.

The manner in which the crash happened is not known, and a description of the vehicle has not been reported.

Responders arrived and pronounced Pope deceased at the crash site. She was a resident of Bakersfield, 56 years old.

The identity of the person who was driving is not known from reports.

Investigators are working to understand the crash. They are currently collecting details and information.
