Cerritos Wrong-way Crash Kills One on 605 Freeway

CERRITOS, CA (August 23, 2022) – Early in the evening on Saturday in Cerritos, a wrong-way crash on the 605 Freeway killed a person. The August 20 crash occurred on the freeway’s southbound side, close to where Alondra Avenue is located.

The time was roughly 6:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

No details have yet been reported on how the crash happened, nor what led to the crash.

Reports say a vehicle–described as a sedan, black in color–collided with a pickup truck. One of the vehicles had been traveling the wrong way on the freeway, but it is not yet known from reports which vehicle that was.

One person was killed in the crash. The person’s identity has not been reported, and it is not known which vehicle the person was traveling in.

Reports do not say if anyone else was hurt in the crash, and no one involved has been identified.

Investigators are at work to understand the crash, and they are collecting information for that effort.
