GROVER BEACH, CA (July 29, 2022) – Late at night on Wednesday in Grover Beach, a crash involving a fire engine killed a bicyclist. The July 27 crash occurred where 13th Street and Trouville Avenue intersect.

The time was roughly 10:20 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, the Five Cities Fire Authority fire engine was traveling on 13th Street and going northbound.

A man on an electric bike entered the intersection in the path of the fire engine, authorities allege.

The man on the bicycle was struck by the fire engine, and the force of the crash threw him.

Firefighters from the fire engine immediately provided first aid and transported the bicyclist to Arroyo Grande hospital.

He died in the hospital. He was identified only as a resident of Arroyo Grande, 29 years old. His name has not been reported.

Investigators are continuing to gather information and details about the crash.
