Fatal Crash on 91 & Police Chase and Crash in Carson

A fatal crash occurred on Thursday morning, September 5, 2013, at 4 am on the 91 Freeway. Three vehicles were involved in an accident in Bellflower. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of traffic, which were closed. There was still heavy traffic on the westbound side of the freeway because drivers decreased their speed as they passed the scene of the accident. Traffic was redirected at Lakewood Boulevard. Two lanes were reopened at 6 am and all lanes were restored by 7 am. One person, a male in his 40s, who was involved, died at the site of the accident. Another person was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition.

In another incident on Thursday morning, a police chase in Carson ended in an auto accident and a shooting. Police started chasing a female driver in her 40s in Palos Verdes Estates after she would not obey requests from officers. The chase started at 1:35 am. She was driving dangerously and was a danger to public safety. She entered the city of Torrance and Torrance police became involved.

The woman drove eastbound on Torrance Boulevard, and the chase lasted until Jamison Street. She crashed her vehicle into fences and into the Dominguez Channel. At one point in the chase, officers fired shots at her; however, she was not hit by bullets. She was hospitalized for her injuries in the car crash. No police officers were injured in the chase, the crash or the shooting.
