Pedestrian Killed In Jaywalking Accident

A man was killed after being struck by a car attempting to cross the street outside a marked crosswalk early Wednesday night in Moreno Valley.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the collision took place at about 8 p.m. on Alessandro Boulevard, about 300 feet west of Indian Street, where an unidentified man was struck attempting to cross the street illegally.

The driver who hit the man remained on the scene as police and paramedics attempted to save the man, though they were ultimately unable to do so. He was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

The vehicle which struck the man suffered noticeable damage, with cracks in the windscreen, as well as one of the headlamps. The hood was also dented in.

The accident forced the closure of Alessandro from Heacock Street to Indian for more than 5 hours to allow police investigators to scour over the scene. At this time it appears as though drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and that the driver will not receive criminal charges.
