Man Dies after Struck by Car on 5 Fwy in Redding

Redding, CA  (February 17, 2024) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning, February 17th, on the 5 Freeway in Redding, according to local authorities.

The fatal crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. along the southbound lanes, just north of Knighton Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a 2011 Kia Soul observed a man in dark clothing walking from the right shoulder of the freeway into the lane in front of his SUV.

Impact of the Crash Proved Fatal Despite The Drives Best Efforts To Stop

Despite the driver’s efforts to brake, he was unable to avoid colliding with the pedestrian. The crash caused fatal injuries to the pedestrian, and authorities pronounced the individual dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

The driver of the SUV did not sustain any injuries, but his vehicle sustained major damage. He remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
