Ceres, CA (October 13, 2018) – Ceres police are investigating a crash involving reckless driving that killed one and seriously injured another in Ceres Saturday afternoon, October 13th. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ustick and Service roads, when 29 year-old Rigoberto Alvarez of Ceres ran the stop sign at Service. The 2003 Honda Civic sped into the intersection as a 2005 Kia Sportage, driven by 78-year-old Faye Beard of Modesto, was entering the intersection westward on Service, police said. Beard’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Honda, and the collision sent both cars onto a nearby shoulder lane. Officials arrived and pronounced Alvarez dead at the scene, and transported Beard to a local hospital with major injuries. Police determined that impairment was not a factor in the crash, and are continuing to investigate the collision. They urge anyone who may have information or witnessed the crash to contact Ceres Police Department at (209) 538-5620.
